Many of us have an ingrained belief that we need to wear our Sunday best for church. On top of this, we are told that leisure or athletic wear is not truly smart enough for everyday use.
Both points make a compelling question… are leggings appropriate for church or not?
Are leggings appropriate for church?
You can wear leggings in church without fuss, if they are not the type you wear in the gym. A neat black legging can complement any skirted outfit and make an excellent alternative to tights or stockings in winter.
Leggings worn alone should always be thick enough to stop anyone seeing anything they should not. Being skin-tight, they can show up every lump and bump of your body.
You should avoid beige leggings too since they can appear as though you are wearing nothing on your lower half. The only time it is acceptable to wear beige legging is when they are covered with a skirt.
Can you wear leggings to a Catholic church?
Yes, you can wear leggings to a catholic church. You are supposed to wear your best clothes to attend mass on a Sunday. If leggings worn underneath your dress or skirt help you to stay warm in a cold, draughty chapel, then you should wear them.
On the other hand, if you want to wear your workout leggings to the chapel, that might not be such a good idea.
The catholic church will not tell you not to attend in these clothes, but the rest of the congregation might admonish you by staring.

Can I wear blue leggings to church?
A nice navy legging underneath a skirt is perfect church wear. Alternatively, blue imitation skinny jeans can be handsome enough to wear to church. Blue leggings come in all shades, so watch your brightness level.
Electric blue yoga leggings are not acceptable, but a royal blue thermal legging worn with a long shirt is ideal.
Do you feel that form-fitting leggings are too risqué for church?
Form-fitting leggings are only risqué if you choose to style them that way. Form fitting jeans seem to be acceptable in church, so why wouldn’t leggings be? It is risqué to wear see-through leggings, beige leggings, or leggings without anything covering them, but not if you have a short skirt or long top on.
As to wearing form-fitting leggings in church underneath a long skirt? This is typically humbler and more reserved than stockings or tights.
Respectability is key, and this ticks all the boxes. Again, if form-fitting leggings are all you must wear, then God would rather you attended in them than did not attend at all.

There is extraordinarily little difference between a form-fitting jean and a form-fitting pair of denim leggings. They look like skinny jeans; with the button and fly detail you would expect at the top. They have back pockets, which we adore, and they are a soft cotton blend which are comfortable on the skin.
These are a good, thick legging that are not see through. Important if you want to wear them to church. They can be teamed with a crisp shirt, some gold, chunky jewellery, and even a chunky belt, to amp up the class.

The high waist is exactly what we all need right now. For young women, it adds to your curves. For older ladies, it hides your stomach nicely. They do not have adornments, so they are plain enough to not draw the attention if you choose a muted colour and stick to that high waist. Your church group will be loving your legs but, if you are still self-conscious, add a short skirt.

03. Muk Luks Fleece Leggings
Available in five different colours, these fleece leggings are extra warm and thick. Ideal for winter and colder climates, these leggings are perfectly acceptable to wear in church. They are thicker than other sets, come with that touchable smooth fleece inner lining, and are machine washable.
They are mostly polyester, with a little spandex stretch thrown in. The colours are bold and interesting. They can be worn with a skirt or just alone, but depending how cold it is outside, you may want to add that extra layer for the sake of warmth.

04. Satina High Waisted Leggings
These beautiful leggings have an opaque finish, which means you are going to want to wear them with a skirt. They are a little see-through but are made to be a tights and stockings replacement. One could argue that it is demurer to wear leggings like these in church in place of tights or stockings, both of which are more sensual in nature.
They are high waisted to secure they do not fall down all day, they are slim fitting, and they are long enough to touch that ankle bone. When placed with either a long or short skirt, they act as tights might – but without the discomfort caused on the feet or at the waist.

- Can be worn either to church or on a night out.

05. Daily Ritual Leggings
These are our only blend of viscose, nylon and elastane leggings, which gives them a different texture to the super soft ones. They have faux pockets on the front buy functional ones on the back, and they resemble a dark coloured skinny jean.
The Daily Ritual leggings are a favoured Amazon Brand that clients keep coming back to buy more of. They are polished when compared to other leggings, plus they have that imitation jean or suit pants feel to them.
Why I Like It:
- The colors are suave and classic.
- You could wear them to work, too.
- The different texture is pleasant after all that polyester.
Does God care what you wear to church?
Although he is not here to answer for himself, we would say that God does not mind what you wear to church if you show up for it. On the other hand, you are visiting His house and, as such, you want to make a good impression. It should be mentioned that God can see what you do all the time, so dressing up for church might be unnecessary.
Timothy 2:9 says that woman should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire. One could argue then, that leggings in church were more fitting than a rich dress or overly priced clothing.
We should also turn to James 2:1-9, who states that making distinctions between rich and poor over clothing is wrong. If you are too poor to afford better clothing than leggings and an old shirt, then you should go to church wearing those items. If the congregation looks down on you for it, God holds them accountable, not you.
So, you can wear leggings to church?
Yes, you can! Remember, it is all about the styling – not the clothing worn.
